Buyer Guidelines
Last updated: 27 July 2026
These guidelines protect you as a buyer on eMarket. Read them carefully before making any purchase. eMarket connects you with verified sellers but is not a party to any transaction.
1. How Buying Works
- Browse listings and find a product you want.
- Pay the contact unlock fee (currently KES 30) via M-Pesa STK push.
- Receive the seller's phone number. Call or WhatsApp to arrange the deal.
- Always inspect goods in person before making any payment to the seller.
- Complete the transaction directly with the seller.
2. Due Diligence: Your Responsibility
eMarket does not inspect, certify, or guarantee any product. You must:
- Visit the farm or pickup point and inspect birds, eggs, or goods before paying.
- Verify quantities match what was listed.
- Check health and condition of animals yourself or through a vet.
- Confirm the seller's identity matches the profile.
- Never send money in advance of receiving goods without adequate assurance.
3. Safe Payment Tips
⚠️ Do not pay in advance
We strongly advise against sending M-Pesa or any payment to a seller before you have physically received the goods. eMarket cannot recover funds sent to fraudulent sellers.
- Pay only on delivery or collection, after inspection.
- Use M-Pesa Till/Paybill for business sellers where possible. You get a receipt.
- Keep M-Pesa transaction confirmation messages for all payments.
- Agree on the final price and quantity before any payment changes hands.
4. Unlocking Contact: What You Pay For
The KES 30 contact unlock fee grants you a single disclosure of the seller's phone number for that specific listing. The fee:
- Is non-refundable once the phone number is displayed.
- Does not guarantee the listing is still available. Always confirm stock with the seller.
- Is charged per listing. Unlocking the same listing twice will incur a second fee.
5. Reporting Problems
If you encounter a fraudulent listing, an unresponsive seller, or products that materially differ from the listing:
- Report the listing using the report button on the listing page or email support@e-poultry.com.
- Include the listing ID, seller name, and a description of the issue.
- For suspected fraud, also report to the DCI Cyber Crime Unit and your M-Pesa provider.
We take fraud reports seriously and will investigate, but eMarket cannot issue refunds for peer-to-peer transactions.
6. Disputes
eMarket is not an escrow or dispute-resolution service. Disputes over goods, quantity, or payment are between the buyer and seller. We encourage parties to settle disputes amicably. In cases of fraud, pursue through the Kenya Police Service or DCI.
7. Broker Listings
Some listings are posted by brokers who source goods from third-party farms rather than producing directly. Broker listings are labelled with a Broker badge. Exercise additional caution with broker listings. Verify the source farm if possible.
Buy from verified sellers
Look for the ID Verified or Batch Verified badges. These sellers have gone through additional verification steps and pose lower fraud risk.
